my freind has had to delay his return to UK and his MOT has expired. can he arrange an MOT at Dover for his arrival?

My current MOT expires in November 2011. I have had another MOT May 2010 so as to sell the car with a 12 month MOT. It has failed, is my current MOT which expires Nov 2011 still valid or do I need to fix the issues with the failed MOT in May 2010? So am I now illegally driving with a failed MOT?
