An
Authorised Examiner (AE) is an individual,
partnership or company authorised by the
Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA)
to offer an MOT test service. The
AE is also responsible for ensuring that
test equipment and facilities are regularly
checked and are being well maintained.
In addition, the AE is responsible for making
sure that the Nominated Testers (NTs) -
those doing MOT tests on their behalf -
have the relevant training and experience,
undergo monthly quality control checks and
attend the five-yearly refresher training.
To become a Nominated Tester (NT) - someone
who is approved to carry out MOT tests -
you must successfully complete a Nominated
Tester Training (NTT) course. If you already
hold the required qualifications and meet
other necessary requirements then you may
be able to progress straight to the NTT
course. If you do not hold the relevant
qualifications but you meet the other professional
requirements then you will need to sit a
Nominated Tester Training Assessment (NTTA)
exam. Once this is passed, you can take
the NTT course and then complete the MOT
TEST. This guide will look at what the
exam and training involves and how to apply.
It will also look at continued testing through
monthly quality control checks and five-yearly
refresher courses.
