Appendix F Identifying Code Locations
The following tables indicate the location of codes needed for identifying appropriate limits for emissions testing on certain vehicles. They also tell you how to extract the relevant codes from the VIN where this is appropriate. The information is provided by the vehicle manufacturers, the amount of detail therefore varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Where there is no information on how to find a particular code which you need, the local agent of the vehicles manufacturer should be able to help you.

 All applicable The engine code consists of the 6th, 8th and 9th digits of the VIN number

 All models except Cinquecento The engine code is located on the VIN plate and engine block
Ford
 Fiesta HCS 3 Digit engine code may be found on cylinder block lug adjacent to number 4 spark plug. Alternative location is rear face of block above clutch housing.
Ford
 Fiesta CVH 3 Digit engine code maybe found on one of two cylinder block lugs, to the left or right of exhaust manifold. Alternative locations are two pads, one on cylinder head between plugs 1&2, and one on rear face of block above clutch housing.
Ford
 Fiesta Zetec 3 Digit code maybe found on pad on the cylinder block adjacent to oil pan rail (oil sump flange) on the exhaust side, or on rear flange of cylinder block adjacent to crankshaft position sensor.

 All applicable The VIN code is the 10th and 8th characters of the VIN respectively. The engine code is on the emissions system label in the engine compartment.
Jaguar
 All applicable The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN number
Kia
 Pride The VIN is located on the VIN plate
Lancia
 All applicable The engine code is located on the VIN plate as well as the engine block
Maserati
 All applicable The model code is located on the VIN plate.
Mazda
 All applicable The vehicle diagnostic system (VDS) code is the 4th and 9th digits of the VIN. The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN.
Mercedes Benz
 All applicable The VIN code consists of the 4th to 9th digits of the VIN number.
Mitsubushi
 All applicable The model and engine code are located on the VIN plate.
Nissan
 All applicable The serial number is the last six digits of the VIN number. The model code is derived from digits 7 to 9 of the VIN numbers.
Peugeot
 All applicable The engine code is the 6th to 8th characters in the VIN number.
Porsche
 911 The engine code is located on the engine block.
Proton
 MPi The model code is the 4th, 5th,6th,8th and 9th characters of the VIN number.
Proton
 Other applicable The model code is the 4th to 8th characters of the VIN number.
Renault
 All applicable The engine code is stamped on the engine and on the VIN plate.
Rolls Royce
 All applicable The 3rd,7th and 10th digits on the VIN plate.
